The Rose’s event of the year

Sunday & Monday 1st - 2nd November 2026
2 nights, plus optional 3rd night Tuesday

We will be using a new venue for our 2026 event; The Makeney Hall Hotel, set in 6 acres of beautifully manicured grounds, not far from the scenic Peak district. It is just 7 miles north of Derby city centre and a few minutes from the charming historic mill town of Belper, with its lovely gardens by the River Derwent. There is a small hamlet across the road from the hotel with a delightful pub. Some of you may have been here before as Northern Concord had their last event here a few years ago.

With 46 rooms, the hotel has a few more than the hotels we have used in recent years, and the prices we have secured are comparable.

The Sunday night and all day Monday are when we have all our main activities, but many of our guests like to have an extra day after (Tuesday) to chill out and visit places of interest in the area (we will organise an outing). The optional day before that we have had at previous hotels will not be available here as the hotel will be fully booked for a wedding on the Saturday.

We will have all our usual happenings, including:
  • ‘Miss Rose of the Year’ Parade
  • Halloween Party and disco two nights
  • Trade stands and Makeovers
  • Swop Shop - Bring one item, take one
  • Fun Quiz
  • Raffle with proceeds as gratuity for hotel staff
  • Lots of free parking
  • Ohh! . . . and there might be a murder!!!  [What?!! Who added that? Nothing to do with me! - 😏 Martine]

We urge booking by the end of July because if we don't have sufficient bookings to ensure exclusive use of the hotel by then, we will have to release any rooms that we have not filled, back to the hotel for sale to the general public. If we have any further bookings after this date, we will have to check with the hotel that the room required is still available.

Public Rooms:
There are several public rooms including a Conservatory where we can have breakfast and lunch, a lounge, and The Milford Suite (picture here), where we will have our evening dinners, entertainments and disco. There are also other function rooms, including a good-sized room where our traders will be attending on the Monday.

Bedrooms:
All bedrooms have complimentary WiFi (high-definition streaming quality), a 45-inch LED television, towels, hair dryer, housekeeping, tea and coffee.

Some of the Executive and Classic rooms are in a courtyard annexe with direct access to the main building. Pets are welcome in these rooms. We will give priority to those staying three nights to be accommodated in the main building.

Superior Suite: The William Strutt Suite exemplifies luxury. This has it's own staircase entrance, separate bedroom and living spaces, a balcony and even a private sauna. Double bed only.

Suites & Junior suites: These are recently renovated with king-sized beds and stylish seating areas. The Suites are King size double beds only (no twins).

Executive Rooms: These have double or king-sized beds (some of them twin) and a couple are family rooms with extra beds.

Classic Rooms: Most of these have double beds, but a few have king-sized beds that can be twin. Two are suitable for disabled persons.

Non-resident Dinner and Evening Entertainment:
If you would like to join us for dinner and the evening entertainment (plus daytime too if you wish) without accommodation at the hotel, this is available for £45 per person. Please email Martine or use the contact form.

The deposit amount is non-refundable, but any additional payment before then will be refunded (e.g. if payment is made in full upon booking).
Between 14th September and 18th October 2026: A partial refund (less deposit) may only be refundable if your place can be refilled.
After 18th October 2026: Sorry we cannot make any refunds.

Coming Alone:
If you are coming alone, rather than select single occupancy, you might like to consider sharing a twin-bedded room with another. Not only will this save you the extra cost of single occupancy, many first-timers take this option as having a room-mate can be very helpful. If you don’t have anyone in mind, we may be able to allocate someone.
