A Tribute to Repartee

I launched Repartee magazine in 1989 and it continued in print until 2016 and as an online magazine (www.repartee.tv) for a further two years. But on June 5th 2018 that website closed, bringing to an end 29 years of the magazine. Many of the website’s Forum users expressed sadness about it’s closure and told of how Repartee had helped them in the past.

A particularly nice tribute came from Julia in Australia which I reproduce below. She sent me a few photos and I used one of them for the ‘Covergirl of the Month’ spot that I had on the Repartee.tv site. Unfortunately it was for the month of June and as the site closed on the 5th of June, Julia only had a few days in the spotlight. So to make up for that I am using the photo here in this blog, which will remain here indefinitely.

Hello Martine,

I just wanted to say thank you for Repartee before you close it down. About 22 years ago I stumbled upon Repartee 23, via a distributor here in Australia. Back in those days before the internet changed everything, I was really struggling with my gender identity. Repartee was like a beacon in the dark; suddenly I was no longer alone, there were other people like me, and they weren't hiding behind drawn curtains and locked doors. They were getting out, and doing it with style!

I subscribed there and then, and looked forward to each issue arriving in the post until the last one, number 82. They were educational as well as entertaining, and I find it sad that such quality print publications are not viable these days. I'm sorry I never contributed to the magazine in either print or web editions as well.

I would like to wish you all the best for the future, and thank you, and all the contributors, regular and casual, once again for showing me the life waiting outside of the closet.

Hi, was a member years ago with my wife, under the name of Zoe Jane Fulton. My wife sadly died in September and through my bereavement counsellor decided I would like to rejoin if you will have me?
I changed my name to Nichola Samantha Allen.

Hi Nicola, Of course you are very welcome back but there no longer is a club to join. But you could sign up for the mailing list to be kept up to date of any news about the events I organise or about this website. I have replied separately to the message you sent me.
